5 of the world’s top mining equipment suppliers exhibiting at MiningWorld Russia

FLSmidth

As one of the key players in global mineral processing, FLSmidth continues to score lucrative machinery contracts serving the Russian market.

Its most recent Russian orders have come in 2020.

FLSmidth will supply a new gold processing plant to JSC Pavlik in Russia’s Magadan region.

The planned seven million tonnes per annum plant will operate alongside the processing plant that FLSmidth supplied in 2013–14.

Under this latest $45m order, FLSmidth will supply equipment across the complete flowsheet, including materials handling, flotation, gravity concentrators, screens, gold leaching, dewatering, pumps, cyclones, valves, instruments and reagent systems. The order also includes a complete plant electrical and automation package.

“We are delighted to receive this order from JSC Pavlik and the Arlan Group,” said Manfred Schaffer, FLSmidth’s Mining President. “Receiving a repeat order with a prominent miner reflects the importance that FLSmidth puts on the development of state-of-the-art mining equipment and into maintaining a close partnership with our customers throughout the full lifecycle of a mine.”

Liebherr

With a Russian HQ in Moscow, and two Russian-based production facilities, Liebherr has become a familiar touchpoint for mining firms operating in the world’s largest country.

Its lifting and transport equipment can be found at many of Russia’s strategically important mining operations.

Much of the equipment Liebherr products for Russian consumers is tailor made for the nation’s often extreme conditions. The majority of Russian mining takes place in Siberia and the Far East – locations known for sub-zero temperatures and harsh weather.

Looking at the Libeherr R 9350 model of hydraulic excavators, the bulk of these units in operation at Russian mines come winter ready. Liebherr’s optional arctic kit, making them fully operational in temperatures up to -50ᵒC/-58ᵒF.

Liebherr also offers localised production of important mining equipment. A major advantage, this allows delivery time reduction and overall saving on unit price.

Why? Because Liebherr Russland’s equipment is technically Russian-made. As such, it avoids import duties and will hold preferential treatment on government-backed projects too.

Komatsu

In a similar vein to Liebherr above, Komatsu also has a manufacturing presence in Russia.

Since 2010, the multinational has been shipping Russia-built mineral extraction technologies to pits around the country from a $100m facility in Yaroslavl.

This passes on substantial cost savings to customers, as well as ensuring constituent brand recognition for Komatsu. Not that the brand particularly needs this: Komatsu is the second largest manufacturer of mining technology and machinery in the world.

Its solutions have helped some Russian companies greatly expand their output.

As of 2018, Komatsu had supplied 22 machines of various specifications to SUEK, an important coal miner with sites across Russia.

Replacing rope shovels in use at its Votsochno-Beisky mine with Komatsu PC 4000 E FS excavators has paid dividends for SUEK. Now, the miner is extracting over 1m BCM monthly at its Vostochno operation.

Come visit Komatsu’s booth at MiningWorld next April to see what solutions can fit your mining profile.

Datamine

Datamine is amongst the world’s leading designers of mining & mineral-extraction related software.

The company offers a complete suite of end-to-end solutions, representing everything from exploration and geological surveying, to open and underground pit planning, day-to-day mine operations, and supply chain management.

Digitalisation and automation are amongst the key trends in Russian mining. The major Russian miners are already turning to digital solutions to help them run the country’s significant mines.

Gold miners Polyus, for instance, is already using computer-controlled solutions for blasting and cutting at its mammoth Olimpiada gold mine.

Need the same for your mining company? Be sure to visit Datamine at MiningWorld Russia 2020.

Herrenknecht

The Russian branch of German tunnelling pioneers Herrenknecht will be at MiningWorld Russia 2020.

Herrenknecht has a long, celebrated history, supplying Russian mines with boring and tunnelling machinery. It also has a strong presence in CIS countries too.

One recent collaboration between Herrenknecht and Russian partners began in December 2018.

Russia’s IOOO Slavkaliy, a potash and potassium miner, employed revolutionary Herrenknect shaft-boring roadheader tech at its Nezhinsky mine in Belarus.

The roadheader based SBR enables the shaft sinking crew to cut variable shaft diameters of up to 12 meters in soft to medium hard rock.

Due to the telescopic design of the boom the machine can excavate approx. 1.2 meters of shaft before the SBR itself has to be released from its stable vertical position and lowered by the shaft ropes.

IOOO Slavkaliy is the first company in Europe to perform shaft sinking without the use of explosives. The aim by using this cutting-edge technology is to be more environmentally friendly, faster and safer than using the conventional drill and blast method.

Expect to see specs of such products by Herrenknecht on their MiningWorld Russia stand.
